Violin and ensemble teacher

Louisa has been playing Violin from the age of 7, and has also picked up some other instruments along the way!
Whilst still at school, she obtained her Grade 8 with Distinction which, along with her passion for music, spurred her on to study Music at Cardiff University. Whilst there, she began to teach privately , and since graduating with a BMus in 2010, she has continued to teach both privately and with Gwent Music Support Service.
Miss Louisa has many years of solo and orchestral experience, including the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, (which occasionally brought up the opportunity to play along side players from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales), many University ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra to name a few, Cardiff Sinfonietta, and she is currently a member of the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, The Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra, Monmouth Festival Orchestra, the Cardiff Charity Orchestra and is also a member of gigging ensembles for weddings and other functions.
Miss Louisa also does occasional session work, and has recorded for artists such as ‘Kids in Glass Houses’ and has worked with producers such as music producer Phil Harding who has been responsible for major hits with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode.

Louisa has been teaching for over 5 and a half  years privately, and nearly 3 years within schools and in music centre as a peripatetic music teacher via Gwent Music Support Service.
During this time she has been able to fine tune her teaching methods into what they are today. She knows the things that are important when teaching a child to play an instrument, and has devised her own ‘result-producing’ method.
Lessons are delivered using a tried and tested blend of the Suzuki Method and Louisa’s own methods. She recognises that whilst learning to read music is an important aspect of playing an instrument, the child should also learn to listen and play competently early on, using fun, easy to manage exercises/games. Note reading is usually featured after a few lessons, once the child is comfortable with the positioning and basic playing of the instrument.

Pupils are encouraged to take part in concerts and festivals organised by Leading notes from the beginning, as performing is not only fun, it gives the child a sense of achievement and the opportunity to form musical friendships with other children too!  If you would like to contact me to arrange a lesson, please e-mail me ar leadingnotes@hotmail.com
